During the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) and Peace in South East Initiative (PISE-P) at the National Assembly complex, Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, spoke about the Monday sit-at-home observed in the Southeast. According to Kalu, the sit-at-home is a sign of laziness and goes against the hardworking nature of the Igbos, who are known for their industriousness and wealth creation.

Kalu emphasized that Southeasterners are not people who seek additional holidays or are inclined towards idleness. He stated that Saturday and Sunday are sufficient for relaxation and that the Southeast is renowned for its vision and hard work.

The Deputy Speaker expressed concern that the sit-at-home demonstration is a departure from the hardworking identity of the Southeast. He highlighted the historical spirit of hard work, building, and progress that has been bequeathed by forefathers and ancestors.

Kalu urged the Southeast to embrace the spirit of building, giving birth, and fostering peace within the region. He used the PISE-P initiative as an example of the values of hard work and construction over destruction.
