Anger rose in the Senate Friday as more senators reacted to the continued posture of the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Cardoso, the Minister of Finance, Mr Wale Edu and other government appointees to deliberately undermine the Senate and their refusal to submit to the oversight responsibilities of the lawmakers.
Daily Independent report that, the senators at a meeting with the Finance Minister, the CBN governor and other head of government agencies also lamented the refusal of some of the ministers and heads of government agencies to obey senate resolutions and their flagrant breach of the laws including extra budgetary expenditures.
At the Senate Committee on Banking and Finance-organized meeting, senators took turns citing multiple instances of flagrant disregard for Senate resolutions and invitations from some heads of government agencies. The meeting was specifically intended to engage the finance, the governor of the CBN, and others on the declining nation’s economy.
The parliamentarians claim that “some of the appointees have refused to see the Senate approval to spend tax payers money or have refused to open their financial books for the Senate committees saddled with the responsibility of overseeing them.”
Less than 48 hours have passed since the Senate Committee on Gas brought up the subject of the Presidential CNG Funds handlers’ lack of openness and their unwillingness to submit to Senate monitoring.
The committee had previously requested information from the finance minister about the allocation and payment of the more than N100 billion CNG fund.
