According to a report by DAILY POST on February 9, 2024, Shehu Sani, a former Federal lawmaker, has issued a warning to Nigerian women, urging them to take proactive measures to prevent their husbands from endangering their health while watching football matches.
Sani, a former member of the Eighth Assembly, emphasized the importance of women’s role in safeguarding their husbands’ well-being during intense football moments.
His caution comes in the wake of a tragic incident during the semi-final match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Bafana Bafana of South Africa in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cote D’Ivoire, where at least five Nigerians lost their lives.
Among the deceased were notable individuals such as Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC); a corps member serving in Adamawa State identified as Samuel; Deputy Bursar of Kwara State University, Malete, Ayuba Abdullahi; and Mikail Osundiji from the Olomoore area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Sani urged women to take decisive actions to protect their husbands’ health, suggesting measures such as turning off the power meter and sabotaging the generator set, especially when unsure of their husbands’ health status.
In a tweet shared on Friday, the lawmaker stated,
“If your husband loves watching Football on live TV and you are doubtful about his health status, just turn off the power meter and switch off and don’t forget to sabotage the generator.”
Following the tragic incident, the Super Eagles expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased fans and observed a minute of silence in their honor. The team also offered prayers for the souls of the departed.
