The Labour Party’s Governor Alex Otti has had his victory upheld by the election petition tribunal in Umuahia, Abia State capital.
Lagos Reporters reports that the tribunal dismissed the petitions filed by Ikechi Emenike of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Okey Ahaiwe of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who had challenged Otti’s election.
Emenike made a claim that Otti had not officially left the APC before becoming a member of the LP in 2022. Furthermore, Emenike stated that Otti’s name was not on the LP register when he was nominated as the party’s candidate for the 2023 governorship election.
Ahaiwe, who came in second place in the election, requested that the court disqualify Otti and declare him the winner instead.
