The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, has accused some government officials loyal to the opposition of leaking classified documents. Onanuga has urged the Federal Government to identify and remove such individuals from their positions.
Onanuga made this statement in response to the Peoples Democratic Party’s call for the National Assembly to investigate the approval of N500 million by President Bola Tinubu to inaugurate a 37-man Tripartite Committee on the New National Minimum Wage.
Recently, a leaked memo surfaced, revealing that President Tinubu allegedly approved N500 million out of a total of N1bn to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, for the inauguration of the committee.
The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, described the approval as financial recklessness, profligacy, and imprudence. Ologunagba also called the Tinubu-led government a cesspit of corruption, where officials engage in brazen and reckless treasury-looting.
Onanuga expressed his concern, asking how a memo written by SGF to the President, bearing the President’s signature, could have leaked. He suggested that there could be some fifth columnists within the government who are not loyal to the government and are leaking classified documents.
Onanuga urged the government to investigate how memos between officials are getting into the public space. He also stated that memos that are supposed to be secret should not be flying all over the place.
