The chairmen of three local governments in Kano, along with several councillors and women leaders, have left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP). The defectors include Ado Tambai from Dawakin Tofa, Mudassir Aliyu from Garun Malam, and Lawan Aramposu from Nasarawa.

The Governor of Kano, Abba Kabir Yusuf, welcomed the defectors and their supporters, praising their decision to join a “new model of politics” that focuses on public service instead of “looting public funds” and “encouraging drug abuse among young people.”

The Governor acknowledged that the chairmen’s term is ending on Monday and that the NNPP is grateful for their decision to join the party. He thanked them for bringing along youths and women, which will enhance the party’s grassroots presence. He also assured them that they are now brothers and sisters and that they will work together to deliver to the people.

Hashimu Dungurawa, the NNPP state chairman, credited Governor Yusuf’s “exemplary leadership qualities” for the defections and stated that his party offers a more attractive alternative to the APC.
