Peter Obi, a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party has stated that when he was governor of Anambra State,
he successfully requested the removal of all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and exercised authority over security matters, even demolishing houses when necessary,
all with the president’s approval during the late President Yar’Adua era.
Obi made this statement in a video recently shared on YouTube by Sahara TV.
He made it known that he enjoyed a substantial measure of power to make some security decisions as governor and he also stressed the importance of governors being in charge and responsible for their states. He emphasized the need for a determined president who grants governors the authority to act effectively.
In Peter Obi’s words:
“All that had to do with security in Anambra, including pulling people’s house down I did it with the authority of the president.
And every month, there was a conversation between the president and the governors and it happened under Yar’Adua”.
