In a tragic turn of events on Wednesday night, Peter Yunana, a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Adamawa State,
collapsed and passed away while watching the intense Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 semi-final clash between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.
The thrilling encounter concluded with a penalty shootout, securing a 4-2 victory for the Super Eagles after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
NYSC Coordinator Mr. Jingi Dennis confirmed the incident on Thursday, revealing that Yunana was swiftly taken to General Hospital in Numan by his colleagues but, unfortunately, resuscitation efforts were in vain. According to witnesses, Yunana expressed his aversion to penalty shootouts moments before bowing his head and collapsing.
Former Nigerian lawmaker Shehu Sani expressed sorrow on Twitter, lamenting the demise of Yunana and urging that the match’s triumph be dedicated to his memory.
