Shehu Sani, a former senator from Kaduna State, recently shared his experience visiting Port Harcourt prison, where he had been detained in 1996.
In a video shared on YouTube by Sahara TV, Sani, reflecting on his past and present observations, noted minimal changes since his time there. He recounted being in the prison during the execution of activist Ken Saro-Wiwa. He said upon revisiting the prison, he didn’t see any notable change there except for the inmates’ uniform color change from white to navy blue.
In Sani’s words:
“I was in Port Harcourt prison when Saro-Wiwa was hanged, I went there and nothing has changed. The only that had changed was that in our time, we wore white uniforms and today they are wearing Navy blue. That is the only thing that has changed, everything else remains the same”
