Following the withdrawal of its legal case against Omoyele Sowore, the Federal Government’s decision prompted the former AAC presidential candidate to address his prolonged detention.
During an interview with Arise TV, Sowore emphasized the stark disparity between his predicament and that of an individual accused of embezzling 109 billion naira, highlighting that the latter was bestowed with a chieftaincy title.
Sowore drew parallels between his confinement and the restrictions faced by prominent figures like Obafemi Awolowo and Pa Imoudu during colonial rule, asserting that he is the third individual in Nigeria’s history to experience such constraints.

He said: “The guy who stole ₦109 billion from AGF office got chieftaincy title but I was detained for 3 years in Abuja. I could not leave Abuja. Obafemi Awolowo was restricted to Lekki and Pa Imoudu the former Labour leader was restricted to Auchi under colonial rule. I am the third person in the history of Nigeria. And then they eventually restricted me to Nigeria for the last 5 years”.
