In a recent ruling, the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal against President Bola Tinubu’s election by the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and criticized the party for even attempting the appeal. The issue brought forth by the APM, regarding the eligibility of Tinubu’s running mate, Kashim Shettima, had already been addressed and dismissed in a previous case by the Peoples Democratic Party against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APM’s legal team faced some tough questioning from the judges, with Justice Inyang Okoro asking them, “What will you gain if you win this appeal?” Eventually, the APM lawyers withdrew the case and it was subsequently dismissed by the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has reserved judgment on the appeals filed by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party and Peter Obi of the Labour Party against Tinubu’s election. The Supreme Court has until November 6th, 2023, to give a judgment on these appeals.
