The President of Nigeria, Tinubu, has arrived in New York for the 78th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly. He was received at JF Kennedy International Airport by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the UN, Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, and Dangana Allu, Defense Attaché of Nigeria in Washington DC.

This is Tinubu’s first outing as president of Nigeria, and he will be leading the Nigerian delegation at the scheduled general assembly events from September 18 to 26.

The traditional airport reception was different this time, with only three officials present to receive the President. Other Nigerian officials were stationed at the UN Plaza Millenium Hilton Hotel to welcome him. Among those present were the Nigerian ambassador to the US, Uzoma Emenike, the Consul General of Nigeria in New York, Lot Egopija, and the Consul General in Atlanta, Amina Samaila. Tinubu is scheduled to address world leaders on Tuesday afternoon as the fifth African leader to speak on the first day of the meeting and the 14th speaker of the 20 leaders scheduled to speak on Tuesday.
