Plans to create an additional 500,000 jobs for unemployed Nigerians have been revealed by President Bola Tinubu. The Ajaokuta Steel Complex, which had previously been abandoned, is now close to completion, and once designated as a free trade zone, it will have the capacity to employ half a million Nigerians.
The President has vowed to fully utilize the infrastructure to boost foreign direct investment and create an enabling business environment for all sectors to flourish. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the President and made the announcement during the APC governorship campaign in Lokoja, Kogi State on Sunday.
The state’s governorship election is scheduled for November 11th. During a rally in Lokoja, Shettima spoke to a large crowd and emphasized the President’s dedication to completing the construction of the River Niger, Kabba-Lokoja, and Abuja-Lokoja roads. The Vice President praised Tinubu for his many ideas and determination to reposition the nation, particularly in terms of restructuring and stimulating the Nigerian economy.
Shettima stressed that Kogi State, being a confluence state, cannot afford a governor who is hostile to the center, and instead must work together with the government to develop the nation. He also hinted at Tinubu’s plans to make the Itakpe crop processing project a reality and promised jobs and affordable education under the current government.
The Vice President emphasized the importance of not compromising the welfare of the citizens and urged Kogi citizens to vote for the APC candidate, Ahmed Usman Ododo, on November 11th to build upon the APC government’s achievements in the state.
He added that the natural endowments of Kogi State would be harnessed for the development of the state and the nation at large, adding that Tinubu had further given his nod for the rehabilitation of the Obajana-Okene road in Kogi State.
Speaking earlier, Kogi State governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, appreciated President Tinubu for accepting to flag off the governorship campaign in his state, disclosing that his administration has achieved a lot, and it is time for consolidation in order to move the state forward.
His words: “We have done a lot in the area of security, education, and health, among others. We want to consolidate on that. I am, therefore, calling on the people of our dear state to vote for our candidate in order to move Kogi State forward”.
