Hooligans disrupted the process of compiling results in the Edo All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election.
The elections were initially held across the 18 local government areas of the state on Saturday. The troublemakers infiltrated the collation center in Benin City on Saturday, February 17.
According to Channels TV, they destroyed multiple cameras belonging to media personnel and compelled journalists to vacate the premises.
Subsequently, chaos erupted, leading to journalists and other individuals present scrambling for safety. Nevertheless, the collation of the result was eventually moved to an alternate location.
Before the interruption occurred, results had been announced from eight council areas, yet the winner of the event had not been officially announced for the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21, 2024.
Some members of the APC, who had conversed with reporters at a polling unit in Ward 2, Oredo Local Government Area, had said that the process was very peaceful.
