The Kano State Prison Command has dismissed the allegations that Murja Ibrahim Kunya, a renowned Tiktoker, managed to escape from their detention facility. It was clarified by authorities that Kunya was set free in compliance with the directives of a state high court.
Alongside five others, the TikTok personality had been marked as wanted by the Kano State Hisbah Board and the State Shari’a Police.
According to Daily Post, her arrest took place in the Hotoro Tinshama region of the city last week in response to complaints from local residents regarding her alleged unwholesome conduct.
These include causing disturbances in public, attempting to influence and recruit young girls into immoral activities, and sharing explicit content and offensive language on social platforms.
Subsequent to her apprehension, she was presented before a Sharia Court in the Gama ward of the city. The presiding judge, Malam Nura Yusuf Ahmed, ordered her detention in jail until Tuesday, February 20, 2024, for a hearing on her plea for release on bail.
Despite declaring her innocence to the charges brought forth by the prosecutor, Aliyu Abideen, she remained in custody. However, rumors of her sudden disappearance from prison started circulating two days prior to the appointed court date, sparking speculations of a potential escape.
Responding to these speculations, Musbahu Kofar Nasarawa, the spokesperson for the Kano Correctional Centre, affirmed that Murja Kunya did not escape but rather was set free by the court that had ordered her detention.
He explained that the TikToker had been liberated since Thursday, spending merely two days in confinement instead of the initially anticipated seven. “It was a court that brought her to us for remand, and it was the same court that ordered us to release her,” he emphasized.
