The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has accused the FCT minister, Nyesom Wike, of jeopardizing the stability of Rivers State. The INC has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and stop Minister Wike and his supporters from attempting to remove the Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara. The INC condemns the security agencies for openly supporting the Martins Amaewhule-led faction of the state lawmakers loyal to Wike. Despite the court order requiring all parties to maintain the status quo and to take no official actions until further notice, the security agencies gave protection to hold a sitting.
In a statement on Monday, the president of the INC, Prof Benjamin Okaba, expressed concern that despite the previous intervention of Tinubu and other critical stakeholders, Wike was still determined to impeach Fubara. The INC implores President Bola Tinubu to call Wike and his supporters to order, as they are putting the stability of Rivers State at risk.
Wike has made provocative statements and scandalous claims against Governor Fubara, accusing him of attempting to take over his structure and masterminding the burning down of the hallowed chamber of the Rivers State House of Assembly. The INC questions whether Wike is at liberty to make such scandalous, libelous, and inciting comments without fear of sanction from the security agencies or even President Tinubu.
The INC is concerned about the impunity and indecorous conduct of a Minister of the Federal Government and the apparent connivance of those who ought to curb his excesses. The organization implores President Tinubu to intervene and address the current situation in Rivers State. The INC commends Governor Fubara for his calm and mature disposition in the face of insults and provocations by Minister Wike. The organization also lauds the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers and other stakeholders who are putting the interest of the state above other interests.
