It has been reported that Nigeria’s national electricity grid has collapsed again, causing a power outage in Abuja, Lagos, and other major cities in the country. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed the news in a statement on December 11. The power outage occurred in the afternoon, leaving all power consumers across the country in total darkness. The TCN spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed that the restoration of the national power grid is already ongoing.
Although Mbah said that the power supply has already been restored in Abuja and some areas, Lagos is still without power. This is the second collapse since mid-September when electricity distribution firms nationwide reported a lack of bulk electricity from federal infrastructure. Despite promises of uninterrupted power supply by President Bola Tinubu’s government since assuming office on May 29, 2023, the power situation in Nigeria remains unstable.
