During a plenary session on Wednesday, Kelechi Nwogu (PDP, Rivers) introduced a motion of urgent public importance, where the House of Representatives condemned the mistreatment of passengers by air operators. The lawmakers expressed their concern about the frequent flight cancellations and delays by airlines in Nigeria, which have led to passengers missing important appointments, business meetings, and even medical appointments. Some passengers have even had to sleep at the airports due to controllable delays or cancellations, and the refund process takes a long time, causing passengers to lose their money.

Therefore, the legislators have urged the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the executive directors of the Federal Airports Authority and the Federal Competition and Consumer Commission to develop policies and regulations to protect and preserve the rights of travelers in Nigeria and ensure strict enforcement. The Aviation and Legislative Compliance Committees were mandated to ensure compliance with the resolution.
