In a devasting incident that took place at Hlaneki village, just outside Giyani in the Mopani District, a couple was discovered dead in their home on Sunday, December 10, 2023. Limpopo Police responded to a complaint about a shooting incident around 22:23 that evening.
Upon arriving at the scene, authorities were met with a harrowing sight—two lifeless bodies, a male and female, were found in their bedroom surrounded by a pool of blood. The victims were identified as 39-year-old Sergeant Sambo of SAPS Giyani and his 42-year-old wife, Suzan Mhlarhi.
Initial reports reveal the female victim had suffered three gunshot wounds to her body, while the male victim had a fatal gunshot wound to the head. The police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, and they acknowledge that the possibility of domestic violence cannot be ruled out.
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, expressed deep sadness over the tragic event, especially as it occurred after the 16 Days of Activism campaign against violence towards women and children.
