The All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on opposition presidential candidates, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP), to contribute constructive ideas and suggestions for running the economy instead of making what it considers “incendiary” statements to incite the Nigerian public, as reported by Sahara Reporters.
The call comes in response to comments made by Atiku Abubakar on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed concern about rising hunger in the country, citing the increasing cost of basic commodities such as bread that are becoming unaffordable for the average Nigerian.
APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, addressed the issue during an interview with Channels TV, stressing that opposition politics should not be solely about condemnation.
He urged both Atiku and Peter Obi to go beyond criticizing the government’s efforts to address economic hardships and provide tangible ideas to President Bola Tinubu.
The APC national publicity secretary stated, “Opposition politics is not necessarily about condemning.
“These individuals, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, touted some of the economic policies this government is running with to be at the core of their economic agenda.
“So what has happened? It is not enough to just condemn; these leaders should be able to, assuming they have the silver bullets this government is not deploying, point it out.”
In response to Atiku’s remarks on social media, Morka emphasized the need for concrete suggestions and ideas rather than mere criticism.
He urged Atiku to leverage his claimed deep understanding of governance and the economy to contribute solutions to the challenges faced by Nigerians.
“It is not enough for Atiku Abubakar to bandy words. I expect a man who thinks deeply as he claims about governance, the economy, and other aspects of our natural life to offer ideas, concrete suggestions,” Morka added.
The APC’s call for constructive engagement comes amid growing discontent among Nigerians, including supporters of the ruling party, over inflation and economic hardship in the country.
Critics on social media, as reported by SaharaReporters, have berated the Bola Tinubu-led government for the prevailing economic challenges.
SaharaReporters also highlighted the APC’s accusation that opposition political parties were orchestrating mass protests to undermine the government’s performance.
The ruling party alleged that recent protests in Minna, Niger State, and Kano, Kano State, were instigated by opposition parties to create threats to public peace and national security.
