In 2010, fourteen years prior, at a time when the currency rate was 150.10 naira to the dollar, a Nigerian university professor was making almost 400,000 naira. It was around $2,665 in pay.
A university professor’s income is still approximately 400,000 naira, or 265 naira, on January 31, 2024, fourteen years later, with the current exchange rate being 1,510 naira per dollar.
A Nigerian university professor today makes 10% of what he or she did fourteen years ago, after achieving the pinnacle of their academic career and fourteen years of hard effort; this is only feasible in Nigeria.
