The fundraising team for the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation has disclosed that Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), allocated a staggering sum of N744,500,000 to cover legal expenses incurred after his defeat in the 2023 presidential election.
According to PUNCH, the chairman of the fundraising team, Aisha Yesufu, made this disclosure during a press conference held in Abuja.
During the conference, Yesufu provided an overview of the LP’s election spending, highlighting the significant expenditure on legal matters.
She stated that despite receiving substantial donations amounting to N596 million from party supporters, including contributions from the Obidient movements and Nigerians worldwide, a large portion of these funds was directed towards addressing legal challenges stemming from the election outcome.
Mrs. Yesufu also clarified that polling unit agents were indeed compensated for their services, contrary to reports that Obi did not pay the agents. She stated that N324 million was allocated for mobilising these agents and ensuring their participation in the electoral process.
Aisha Yesufu further lamented the inability to fully leverage television advertising for the campaign due to financial constraints.

“For the election promotion expenses, we had N10,808,948 and deployed N744,500,000 to cover legal expenses. We thank everyone who donate in cash and kindness.”
