It is common knowledge that former presidential candidate of the AAC, Omoyele Sowore was arrested during a protest in August 2019 and he was accused of treason by the government of former President Muhammadu Buhari. Recently, the federal government, under Tinubu, dropped the charges against Sowore.
In a recent interview with Arise TV, Sowore reflected on the personal sacrifices of his activism. He shared the emotional toll of being separated from his family, not seeing his wife for nearly five years, and missing crucial moments in his children’s lives. Despite these hardships, Sowore emphasized that he had anticipated such challenges when choosing the path of activism.
In Sowore’s words:
“My kids grew up without me and I have not seen my wife for close to 5 years since July 2019. But I have weathered the storm because I know that if you go in the direction that I chose in life, this is going to happen to you. And this is not the first time, it happened to me in the university, I ended up spending 6 years instead of 4 years at the University of Lagos.
So nothing new here, this arrest and several other arrests and several attempts on my life have been made”.
