The government led by President Bola Tinubu has urged content creators, producers, and broadcasters in Africa to explore business opportunities and overcome challenges in the sector. The call was made by the Information Minister, Mohammed Idris, during the opening of the 2023 Edition of AFRICAST on Tuesday in Lagos. The three-day event, which is organized by the National Broadcasting Commission, focuses on the theme ‘Broadcast Content: Synergy, Finance, and Market,’ and allows broadcasters, content creators, and producers to discuss the latest trends and innovations in the media and entertainment industry.

Mr. Idris stressed the importance of finding new business opportunities, surmounting industry challenges, and strengthening networks. He also mentioned that AFRICAST is Africa’s investment platform for broadcast content and technology, providing networking opportunities for broadcasters and broadcast equipment manufacturers. The conference has attracted influential people in the local and international broadcast industry and put the country on the global broadcasting map, contributing to its benefits.

This year’s event will have a special session named ‘AFRICAST 2023 Content HUB,’ which is the first of its kind in Nigeria. The hub will be a vibrant networking platform for TV and film experts in collaboration with the Nigerian International Film and TV Summit. It will aim to transform and revolutionize the television industry in Nigeria and Africa, drive content acquisition, aggregation, and licensing distribution of local and international programs from various film and television content categories.

Mr. Idris believes that the conference’s new insights, connections, and partnerships will help to shape a better future for the continent and the world at large. The event started on Tuesday and will conclude on Thursday, bringing together broadcasters, content creators, producers, and other professionals in the industry to share knowledge, experiences, and ideas.
