Controversy has erupted over the relocation of certain departments of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) from Abuja to Lagos, sparking reactions on the perceived motives behind this decision.
In a recent interview with The Sun, Jaliu Charanchi, the Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups, expressed the sentiments of some individuals, particularly those from the Hausa community, who believe that President Tinubu’s actions are driven by a desire to favor his southern base at the expense of the north.
According to Charanchi, the perception among the Hausa community is that Tinubu’s relocation decisions are politically motivated, with the aim of rewarding his supporters in the south rather than the north.
He said that since the majority of votes received by Tinubu in the presidential election originated from the northern region, there exists a political expectation for him to reciprocate the support by providing benefits to his northern supporters.
The coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups suggested that the Hausa community sees Tinubu’s actions as a departure from the anticipated reward for political support, leading to a perception of unfavourable treatment.
