Arsenal legend Martin Keown said that goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale was probably the hero during the 2-1 Premier League win over Brentford at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners deservedly got into the lead from a Declan Rice header in the first half, but a Ramsdale howler right before the break helped the Bees pull level.
The Englishman, who was making his first league appearance of the year, took a long time to make a decision. Yoane Wissa capitalised to deflect the ball into the net.
Ramsdale, however, redeemed himself in the second half with two exceptional saves.
Ivan Toney’s stunning 40-yard shot looked on course to find the back of the net. Ramsdale did tremendously well to backtrack and make a splendid finger tip save.
He replicated the same before the Gunners’ winner. Nathan Collins had a free header in the box, but he was denied by another stellar stop from the club’s former number one.
Kai Havertz grabbed the headlines with his 86th minute in the derby, but Keown told Premier League productions that Ramsdale was probably the hero with two great saves.
He said: “Thankfully we’re now talking about Ramsdale maybe being the hero with the two great saves he made. Havertz, really important goal. You can see the relief from Ramsdale and you feel it within the stadium. That’s a significant win for Arsenal.”
