Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC, says he is not afraid of the appeal challenging his victory at the tribunal in the March 18, 2023 polls.
Earlier, Lagos reporters reported that the state tribunal had declared the APC winner of the election, sacking Governor Abba Yusuf. The three-man panel has ordered the withdrawal of the certificate of return presented to Governor Abba Yusuf by INEC. In addition, the panel has directed that a certificate of return be issued to Gawuna.
Yusuf was dissatisfied with the tribunal’s verdict and has decided to appeal. Gawuna, in an interview with BBC Hausa, expressed gratitude to Allah for their victory in the Kano State election, which was confirmed by the court on Wednesday. He thanked Allah for choosing them to lead and for His will.
I would like to express my gratitude to our lawyers and the general public for their prayers and support. Although NNPP was initially declared the winner of the election, I trust that the outcome was already determined by Allah.
We exercised our right to contest the election outcome in court, and the court’s decision is in line with Allah’s will.” When questioned about the possibility of an appeal, Gawuna replied, “As a believer in Allah’s plan, I never approach governance as a life-or-death situation. We trust that everything that occurs is by Allah’s design. We are not afraid or daunted, as we understand that whatever happens is for the greater good. Allah never errs.”
