Traders and residents in the Ero Omo-Kilanko-Biada community in Ilorin South says that the roads are damaged and it is destroying their businesses and making it hard to move around.

They are asking Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to repair it quickly.

Residents say deep gullies caused by erosion have made parts of the road almost impossible to use for cars, motorcycles and pedestrians.

They also want proper drains built to stop the erosion, which they say is threatening nearby buildings.

Temitope Olayemi, a businessman in the area, told a national newspaper that customers and suppliers can no longer reach shops easily.

Motorists and commercial motorcycle riders are struggling to move around.

Tosin Araoye, a businesswoman, said suppliers now dump sachet water by the expressway because their vehicles cannot get into the community.

Traders then have to carry the goods to their shops themselves.

Segun John said he can no longer drive his vehicle into the community, which has hurt his work.

Commercial motorcycle operators say they often have to drop passengers before the worst stretches and let them walk the rest of the way.

Emmanuel Adeniyi said this has cut into their daily earnings, while Femi Abodurin warned that the community could be cut off completely during the next rainy season.

He also said erosion is threatening a house opposite the damaged section.

Abodurin acknowledged that the state is rehabilitating Kilanko Road, but asked the government to extend the work to other roads linking nearby communities.

Saka Abdulkadir, Secretary of the Ero Omo-Kilanko-Biada Community Association, said some car owners have had to use other routes to reach their homes.

Earlier, the state government said it would soon begin work on Kilanko Road in the Offa Garage area of Ilorin, as well as the Gaa Akanbi-Danialu-University of Ilorin road corridor.

The then Commissioner for Works, Qowiyu Olododo, said engineers had visited the sites and were reviewing designs to suit the terrain.

He said residents would be informed once a decision was made.

He also said the government had built more than 300 kilometres of roads since 2019.
