Reports by Vanguard on Saturday, February 3, 2024 indicated that Nwabali, the Super Eagles goalkeeper, has expressed his desire for a potential clash against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the semifinals of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 in Cote d’Ivoire.
Nwabali, who plays for Chippa United in the South African Premier League, hopes to face familiar opponents as the Super Eagles advance in the tournament.
Following the Super Eagles’ 1-0 victory against Angola on Friday, they are set to encounter the winner of the match between Cape Verde and South Africa.
Nwabali, confident in his team’s abilities, shared his excitement with reporters, stating, “Both Cape Verde and South Africa are good teams, but I want to play against South Africa. I really wish to see how my defence will fare against them.”
Nwabali’s anticipation stems from his familiarity with South African players, as he emphasized, “Yes, most of their players know me, and I also know them.”
With only one goal conceded in the five games he’s guarded the net for the Super Eagles during the tournament, Nwabali is poised for a challenging yet promising semifinal showdown.
