Ola Olukoyede, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been challenged by the Supreme Council for Shariah in Nigeria to reveal the religious organizations behind the insurgencies in the country.
According to Punch, following Olukoyede’s revelation that the EFCC had uncovered a religious group in Nigeria laundering money for terrorists, the SCSN, represented by its Secretary Malam Nafi’u Ahmed and President Sheik AbdulRasheed Hadiyahtullah, released a statement.
They urged legal action against those involved in financing activities that threaten the nation’s security. They demanded the EFCC to disclose the identity of the religious body allegedly sponsoring terrorism, with N7 billion out of N13 billion traced to its account.
Expressing concern about the potential misuse of funds for activities compromising Nigeria’s peace and security, they stressed the gravity of the situation and called for immediate public clarification and decisive action against the troubling connection between religious groups and insurgency.
They also urgently called on the EFCC to publish the list of all sponsors involved in criminal activities and demanded proper legal action against those found complicit in financing activities undermining the nation’s security.
In addition, they addressed the insecurity situation in Plateau State, criticizing the exclusion of Muslim representation in the security committee and emphasizing the need for a comprehensive and impartial approach.
They demanded a reevaluation of the committee’s composition to ensure true representation of the entire population, stating that the current imbalance undermines principles of justice and hinders the development of a united front against the state’s challenges.
They also called on the governor to heed the call for justice and equitable representation in order to avoid sending a disturbing message to the world and exacerbating the crisis.
