The Adamawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Yola has upheld the victory of Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as the governor of the state. The tribunal ruled against the petition filed by Aishatu Dahiru Binani, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who challenged the outcome of the March 18 election and the April 18 declaration of Fintiri as the winner after the April 16 supplementary election.
During the supplementary poll, the then Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Adamawa State, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, controversially announced Binani as the winner before the collation of results was completed. INEC later nullified Yunusa-Ari’s decision and suspended him, while then-President Muhammadu Buhari ordered a full investigation of the electoral commissioner and the security personnel who were around him when he made the declaration.
Ultimately, INEC declared Fintiri the winner of the election with 430,861 votes, while Aisha Binani received 398,738 votes. It is important to note that on October 2, the tribunal led by Justice Theodore Uloho dismissed the petition filed by Dr. Umar Ardo of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
