President Bola Tinubu has summoned Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo to Aso Rock over allegations of payment of a consultancy fee of N438 million to a company, New Planet Project Limited, linked to him by suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu. The contract was awarded for the National Social Register project, which was created for cash transfers and other social investment programs.
New Planet Project Limited was initially paid N279 million and then another N159 million for verification of the list. Following the suspension of Betta Edu, some Nigerians on social media have been calling for the suspension of Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo as well.
Sodiq Tade wrote: “If he is a shareholder in a company involved in corrupt practices, then he must be made to step aside just like Betta Edu. Accountability is crucial for the progress of our country.” Omotayo Williams also wrote: “It is evident that Olubunmi-Ojo has used his position to influence his company to get the contract.”
