The Supreme Court is currently reviewing an appeal filed by Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State, who is seeking to confirm his election that was nullified by the Court of Appeal in November 2023. According to Politics Nigeria, Governor Mutfwang won the election after garnering 525,299 votes while his closest rival, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Nentawe Yilwatda, received 481,370 votes during the governorship poll held on March 18 in Plateau State.
On Tuesday, January 9, the Supreme Court heard arguments from lawyers representing both parties in the case. A five-member panel of the Supreme Court led by John Okoro presided over the hearing. During the session, Mr Mutfwang’s lawyer, Kanu Agabi, and Mr Yilwatda’s counsel, J.O Olatoke, presented their arguments. After a frenzied debate, the Supreme Court concluded that the date of judgment would be communicated to the parties in the lawsuit.
The Supreme Court’s verdict on the case is expected before January 16, 2023.
