The national chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has been released by the police after being arrested on Wednesday in Benin city, the Edo State capital. The arrest was made based on a petition accusing Abure of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit dangerous harm, and illegal possession of firearms.
After his release, Abure spoke about the situation, stating that the accusations against him were false and that people within the party were being instigated to write petitions and cause trouble. He also mentioned that the police acted on these false accusations, but in the end, they found out that they were baseless.
Abure further explained that they were preparing for the primaries when the police arrested them, but he did not want to discuss the matter in detail since investigations were still ongoing. He expressed gratitude for his release on bail after several interventions.
