The Federal Government has denied any involvement in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State. The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this statement during a press briefing after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which was presided over by President Bola Tinubu.
The government’s position is in response to allegations that it had a hand in the crisis. The defection of 27 lawmakers loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has resulted in political turmoil in the state.
Idris emphasised that the government’s stance does not align with Wike’s. He clarified that the minister’s involvement in the situation does not represent the federal government’s position.
The minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to peace and stability in all parts of the country, including Rivers State. The government will work towards ensuring peace and tranquillity in all parts of the country.
Idris also addressed the accusations made by Asari Dokubo that President Tinubu has ignored the crisis. He stated that Dokubo’s message was merely advisory, and the government remains dedicated to resolving the situation.
