Dr Salihu Lukman, the former director general of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), has warned that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could lose the 2027 election. Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Lukman suggested that a rebellion could be brewing within the party’s ranks.
Lukman, who resigned as APC’s national vice chairman (North West), argued that the APC-led administration is not meeting the aspirations of Nigerians. He expressed his concerns that the leaders of the party have grown too comfortable in their positions and are not doing enough to push the country forward. He believes that this lack of progressiveness could lead to the party’s downfall in the next election cycle.
He further explained that his upcoming book, “APC and Transition Politics”, aims to reposition the party before the 2027 elections. As a supporter of President Tinubu and a founding member of the APC, Lukman feels that it is his responsibility to call out the party’s shortcomings and encourage leaders to reflect and come up with strategies to engage with Nigerians.
Lukman stated that Nigerians are not the subjects of elected representatives; rather, elected representatives should see themselves as true representatives of Nigerians. He emphasized that democracy should be responsive to the demands of Nigerians and their expectations and that if it fails to do so, then the country will have a problem.
