The tragic killing of a Lieutenant Colonel in the Nigerian Army and six soldiers by Boko Haram terrorists threw many Nigerians and the country’s military into mourning and lamentation during the weekend.
Their deaths came exactly one week after the burial of the 17 military personnel killed in Okuama community of Delta State.
It was gathered that Boko Haram terrorists along Biu-Buni Yadi road, Borno State, ambushed the Lt. Colonel and his men, and killed them in a gun battle.
Following the tragic incident, army troops on Friday stormed Grazah in Gwoza LGA of Borno State, previously known as a hideout for terrorists, and neutralized many of them.
According to Zagazola, air strikes by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai at Grazah in Gwoza LGA of Borno State yielded the requisite outcome.
The army said such operation, carried out deep into the terrorists’ enclaves, will continue because the terrorists use such areas as recruitment, training centres.
Meanwhile, Daily Trust reports say the Boko Haram insurgents ambushed the soldiers at Kamuya, a village close to Buratai, home town of former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai (rtd).
A security source said the soldiers paid a supreme price on their way to Damaturu to buy fuel.
“It’s very sad; they were soldiers of 135 Special Force BN FOB in Buratai. They were ambushed on their way to Damaturu, Yobe state, to buy fuel.
“Unfortunately, we lost an officer, a driver, gunner and four other escorts, while the wounded are in the hospital responding to treatment.
“I can’t describe the kind of gun battle that ensued, the insurgents who were in large number overwhelmed the soldiers. It’s by God grace that I survived.” CONTINUE READING
