An assembly of democracy supporters from the 19 Northern states, known as Arewa Initiative for Defence and Promotion of Democracy, has voiced their support for President Tinubu’s government.
According to a report by Daily Trust, the group urged Nigerians to overlook recent protests in Kano and Minna, which they labeled as ‘sponsored protests.’
Led by Professor Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, the group attributed Nigeria’s economic woes to the state of affairs inherited by Tinubu from his predecessor. They addressed concerns raised by citizens in Minna about rising prices, emphasizing that the current government is already taking steps to address such issues.
Professor Ma’aji emphasized that it’s premature to critique the eight-month-old administration, urging citizens to exercise patience and patriotism. He highlighted the group’s solidarity with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing the gradual nature of solving inherited problems.
While affirming the right to peaceful protests, the group stressed the importance of adherence to legal procedures. They acknowledged ongoing challenges such as inflation, corruption, and insecurity, urging cooperation with the administration’s efforts to find lasting solutions.
He said, “The current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inherited a lot of problems from the past administration of Muhammadu Buhari which it is currently trying to address.
“The solutions to the problems cannot be instantly solved but in a gradual pattern.
“Nigerians should show patriotism by cooperating with this administration in its bid to find solutions to the country’s problems such as inflation, corruption, insecurity – banditry and kidnapping that the country is currently facing.”
