Olumide Akpata, a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, has announced his intention to run for governor of Edo State in 2024 under the Labour Party.
Lagos Reporters reports that Akpata, who made the declaration at the party’s secretariat in Benin City on Thursday, said he was motivated by his passion for the people of Edo State and his desire to make a difference in their lives.
He expressed confidence in leading the LP, which he believed to be the only party committed to the well-being of ordinary people, to victory in the election.s for the people of Edo State. And what I find out in politics and governance in Nigeria today is that the people have been taken out of the equation. Nobody cares about the people.
“So, when I look around, the only party I find to be people-oriented and interested in the lots of our people is the Labour Party.
“So I have come here to express my interest and to carry the people along,” he said.
The state chairman of the LP, Kelly Ogbaloi, welcomed Akpata to the party and said the party’s working committee had endorsed his aspiration. He promised a level playing field for all aspirants in the party’s primary election.
The Edo State governorship election is scheduled for September 21, 2024.
