According to Garba Shehu, the spokesperson for former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, the current economic difficulties in Nigeria cannot be attributed to Buhari’s administration. Shehu responded to comments made by Oluremi Tinubu, who claimed her husband inherited a damaged country, by defending Buhari’s record and stating that he successfully led the country out of crisis.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Shehu added that no past administration faced the level of economic hardship that Buhari’s administration did.
“The country had to deal with a decline in oil prices and the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Despite these challenges, Buhari was able to bring the economy out of crisis,” Shehu was quoted as saying.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian First Lady has continued to receive backlash fire for her statement on Sunday.
The First Lady made the statement during a church service in Abuja as part of events to mark Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary.
