The Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum has expressed its dissatisfaction with Governor Sim Fubara’s decision to reappoint nine former commissioners who are loyal to FCT minister, Nyesom Wike. These commissioners had resigned their positions during the recent political crisis in the state. After the signing of an 8-point resolution between Fubara and Wike at the Presidential Villa, the Rivers governor recalled the commissioners. However, the Forum has described Fubara’s action as illegal.
A member of the Forum, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, advised Fubara not to be complacent around the commissioners. He mentioned that it was not wise to protect your house with your sworn enemies. When your enemies are known, you should either push them away or keep them at arm’s length. The chief also expressed concern that the Rivers Elders were still in court, challenging the resolution reached at a reconciliatory meeting convened by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja in December.
He further stated that the governor’s actions were not in tandem with the law, and they were in court to challenge the eight-point directives. If the court interprets in their favour, then all the appointments made by the governor would become null and void. If the court rules otherwise, they will exhaust all legal means to fight for their cause.
Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe also had a message for the returnee pro-Wike commissioners. He said that they were null and void and that they should interpret the law for them. He believes that the upcoming judgment on the 28th will address most of the issues. If that judgment gives them what they are looking for, then no problem. Otherwise, they will fight this case to the end.
