Former Presidential aide Reno Omokri has criticized Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, for questioning President Bola Tinubu’s academic records.
Obi had expressed his belief that people should be truthful about their qualifications but also stated that educational qualifications are not the only criterion for being a good President, citing examples of American leaders who had succeeded despite lacking strong educational backgrounds.
Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, recently won a legal battle to investigate Tinubu’s academic qualifications. Tinubu had provided certificates from Chicago State University to INEC to prove his eligibility for the election. A U.S. court has ordered the university to release Tinubu’s academic records in support of Atiku’s petition challenging the results of the 2023 presidential poll.
Social media users are questioning the authenticity of the records, but they have been made available to Atiku. Omokri criticized Obi for suggesting that there could be a fake certificate, given that he had supported Tinubu’s credentials. Omokri also questioned why Obi had not provided his own degree from the University of Nigeria Nsukka to INEC.
