Dele Farotimi, a legal practitioner, author, and political activist, has taken to Twitter to criticize the supporters of Bola Ahmed Tinubu (BAT), the former governor of Lagos State and a national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a tweet posted on Saturday, February 3, 2024, Farotimi said that defending Tinubu is an exercise in “self-denudement”, meaning that one cannot defend him without disgracing yourself.
Defending BAT is a self-deprecating activity; you cannot stand up for him without putting yourself in a bad light. He said, “You have to take off your own garment of honour in order to cloak the man, and the more loudly you defend the man, the more dishonourable you prove yourself to be.”
Farotimi has been an outspoken opponent of the 1999 Constitution and the Nigerian system. He is a member of the Citizens’ Rally against Oppression (RAMINBA). Additionally, he served as a spokesman for Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s nominee for president in 2023.
