Gontse Setuke, a 23-year-old mother, is living through every parent’s worst nightmare. Her two-year-old daughter, Agang, affectionately known as “Pompo,” has gone missing from their home in the Thetele section of Mothutlong, North West, since Thursday, 18 April 2024.
The heart-wrenching ordeal began when Gontse left her daughter under the care of her grandfather, Jonas Toli, aged 72, while she escorted her elder daughter to school. At the time, Jonas was inside their humble shack while little Agang enjoyed her breakfast outdoors.
Tragically, the tranquility shattered when Jonas received news from a friend that there was no sign of the toddler outside. This alarming revelation thrust the family into panic mode as they realized Agang was nowhere to be found.
Jonas, believing the child might have wandered off to visit Gontse’s sister, who resides approximately 100 meters away, initially brushed off the concern. He candidly admitted to having gone out for a drink with a friend, assuming Agang’s safety under her aunt’s watchful eye.
However, reality hit hard upon Jonas’s return around 4 pm. Gontse, anxiously questioning her father’s whereabouts, was met with the shocking realization that her precious daughter was missing. In a desperate bid for answers, Jonas recounted his assumption that Agang had sought refuge at her aunt’s home, only to be confronted with the harsh truth that she hadn’t arrived there.
The community of Mothutlong rallied together, combing through every nook and cranny in search of little Agang. Local authorities were promptly notified, launching an extensive search operation to locate the missing toddler.
