Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has requested the support of the FCT Workers Administration (FCTA) to make Abuja a proper capital.
Mr. Wike made the appeal in Abuja, while receiving delivery notes from Adesola Olusade, permanent secretary of the FCTA, in Abuja on Tuesday.
The minister said his mission was to make Abuja a great city, worthy of a federal capital of Africa’s most populous nation.
“I will make sure that Abuja gets the best. You will see projects on projects, and projects that will be completed and not abandoned.
“I am not part of abandoned projects. I start a project when there is money, so we will analyze our finances before starting any project.
“I believe in President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope, and Nigerians will see the difference in no time,” he said.

However, he noted that not much would be accomplished without the support of FCT workers and residents.
He said that in a short time, the ministry will restore public lighting in the city, improve public transportation and ensure better sanitation to keep the city clean and livable.
“We need your support. Nothing will work without your passion, dedication and commitment to duty. We will give you all the support, incentives and whatever you need to make it work.
“What I expect are results. However, if I provide the necessary resources, you must deliver or return the funds.
“Starting next week, we are committed to fulfilling our responsibilities, but we have to work together to fulfill our mandates,” he told the workers.
Mr. Wike said that appointments to the various FCTA secretariats would be made after due consultation with relevant stakeholders.
He urged directors who felt they lacked the ability to meet their current tasks to seek redeployment to areas of their strength, adding that he would accept no excuse for failure.
Also, FCT State Minister Mariya Mahmoud said that with the support of the workers, what Mr. Wike has done in Rivers will be replicated in the FCT.
“I have the firm conviction that together and with your support we will replicate what the Minister (Wike) has done in Ríos in the country’s capital, especially in the Area Councils and Satellite Towns.
“This is so that the lives of our people in rural areas are positively touched.
“It is also instructive to state that maximum commitment, cooperation and loyalty are expected from all staff, because it will not be business as usual.
“We will run with the vision of President Tinubuwhich we will present as we begin work,” he said.
Earlier, the permanent secretary assured the ministers of the unconditional support of all the staff of the FCT Administration to guarantee the updating of the mandate of President Tinubu.
“I am particularly impressed that all of the stakeholders in FCT, including the indigenous peoples of Abuja, have shown their commitment to working with all of you.

“The warm welcome extended to them yesterday clearly shows the enthusiasm of FCT residents to see them replicate the Port Harcourt experience at FCT,” he said.
Mr. Shehu Hadi, Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority, thanked Mr. Wike and Ms. Mahmoud for agreeing to serve and reposition the FCT.
Mr. Hadi assured the ministers of the support and cooperation of the workers needed to re-position the FCT as one of the best in the world.
“We hope for a harmonious relationship for the good of all in the FCT,” he said.
