Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba state and chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) campaign council for the Bayelsa gubernatorial elections, says the party will retain the state in the November 11 elections, based on recent events.
This was stated by Mr. Kefas at the council meeting on Thursday in Abuja.
“Our campaign is not simply a quest for power but a commitment to transformational leadership that fosters growth, equity and unity.
“Bayelsa’s potential is unlimited and we are at the crossroads of history waiting to shape a trajectory. Our campaign will be driven by the voices of the people and our policies will reflect their aspirations.
“Governor Douye Diri promises to prioritize education, healthcare, infrastructure, job creation, youth and women empowerment and also sustainable development as a cornerstone of his agenda.
“Our success will not be defined by victory at the polls, but by the trust we have built over time and the positive impact we have had on the lives of the people of Bayelsa,” he said.
Kefas charged the council members to work in synergy to achieve a successful election result.
“Let us remember that unity is our strength.
“Let’s foster a collaborative environment where innovative ideas flourish and define our strategies,” he said.
The incumbent governor and PDP candidate in the elections, Mr. Diri, who expressed confidence that the party would emerge victorious, said that the factor or question of federal power would not work in the elections.
“I am not very sure that even the federal power that we know of, I am not sure that there is any federal power for a candidate who has been roundly rejected by the people.
“The federal government is not a government that is going to be anti-democratic either. The federal government will defend democracy.
“We are in a democratic system and I think that if we work well and don’t take it for granted we have already won. “This isn’t over until it’s over,” he stated.
Diri said that although Bayelsa was a PDP stronghold, the campaign council should not undermine the All Progressives Congress (APC) threat in the state.
“But there is a popular saying in my place that when a blind man tells you that he is going to stone you, it means that he is standing on top of a stone.
“So let’s not take our opponents, especially the APC, for granted.
“In Bayelsa I would like to let you know that this election transcends the party line. So we are not going there to make fun of APC,” Diri said.
