The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoexplained on Thursday why he moved his office to the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
He said that he wanted to personally supervise what was happening in the sports center and make sure that everything was done correctly.
“I took a tour of the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja and insisted that instead of having my office in the Secretariat, my office as Minister of Sports Development had to be in the stadium.
“I already made that decision. I’m tasked with making the ministry work, and we have to make it work. The MKO Abiola stadium is where we have 90 percent of the sports departments.

“The stadium is where we have all the secretariats of the federations, the athletes and the footballers. For coordination and surveillance purposes, it is imperative that my office be in the stadium.
“I don’t care about challenges; what matters to me is profit in the sports sector. I have also sent a memorandum to the permanent secretary for the remaining sports departments to be in the stadium, ”he said.

Mr. Enoh reiterated that his focus would be on the development of sports and how sports can be used for the development of the country.
“The focus as sports minister will be twofold; one is the development of sports, the other is grassroots development, infrastructure and services at the grassroots level, where the real talents are domiciled.
“I want to see those Ajegunle talents become elite athletes. We want to go to those places where there are fewer opportunities or where people may not have the opportunity to express themselves.
“I want to provide a basketball court for those indoors and others. Many times, the great boxers are not produced in intellectual areas but in local environments.
“I want to provide these things and not just say them, and at the end of my term we want to tell tangible things that have given us social inclusion, which will translate into sports development,” he said.
NAN reports that as part of its ongoing efforts to assess the condition of the country’s major sports facilities, Enoh inspected the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos on Thursday.
He began his inspection at the stadium complex, where he visited the National Institute of Sports, the boxing complex, the stadium’s main bowl, the sports medical center, the indoor sports hall and other facilities.
He also inspected the Games Village, Legacy Pitch and Power House hostels, as well as the courts for various sports.
