The well-being of young minds, addressing the mental health challenges faced by Generation Z is imperative. This generation, born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s, has unique stressors, including the digital age’s constant connectivity and societal pressures. Recognizing and understanding these challenges is the first step towards promoting healing and resilience. We usually differentiate between millennials and Gen Z over their personalities and habits. But we forget to understand what makes these two generations different from each other. One major segment is the way they deal with their problems. Gen Zs are more prone to mental health issues as they hesitate to communicate with people about their problems.

In a conversation with Jagran English, Dr Ankita Priydarshini, Consultant Psychiatrist and Founder & Clinical Head – of Thriving Minds, Dehradun explained mental health issues in Gen Z and ways for healing.

Mental Health Challenges Of Gen Z

Digital Overload

Gen Z is the first generation to grow up in a digitally connected world, leading to information overload, cyberbullying, and unrealistic social media expectations. Spending too much time online can be overwhelming.

Academic Pressure

High expectations in education, coupled with fierce competition, contribute to stress, anxiety, and burnout. Grades matter, but so does your mental health.

Isolation and Loneliness

Despite being digitally connected, many young individuals feel isolated, leading to feelings of loneliness and depression.

Simple Tips for Healing

Talk it Out

Share your thoughts and feelings with someone you trust. It could be a friend, family member, or even a pet. Just talking can make a big difference.

Tech Timeout

Give yourself a break from screens regularly. Go outside, try a hobby, or just relax without the constant buzz of notifications.

Mindful Moments

Take a few minutes each day to breathe deeply and clear your mind. You don’t need to be a meditation pro, just find a quiet space and let your mind unwind.

Balance Matters

School or college is important, but so is your well-being. Find a balance between work and play. Break tasks into smaller chunks to make them more manageable.

Connect in Real Life

Spend time with friends doing things you enjoy. Face-to-face connections can be more refreshing than online interactions.

Ask for Help

If things feel too heavy, it is okay to ask for help. Reach out to a counsellor or therapist, they are trained to support you through tough times.

Healthy Habits

Eat well, move your body, and get enough sleep. These simple habits might sound basic, but they play a big role in how you feel every day. Remember, healing is a journey, not a destination. Take small steps, be kind to yourself, and embrace the support around you.
