Sebastian Haller, a football player from Ivory Coast, has promised to make up for their defeat against Nigeria in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations group stage. According to Punch, the final match of the tournament will be played on Sunday in Abidjan, and it will be contested between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Ivory Coast’s Elephants.
Nigeria defeated Ivory Coast 1-0 in a group-stage match with a penalty scored by William Troost-Ekong in the second half. Prior to their upcoming match on Sunday, Ivory Coast’s striker Haller expressed his team’s desire for revenge and the championship title this time around.
“We are playing the AFCON final against Nigeria. It is a great nation. It is heavy. They beat us in the group stage.”
“But we are already motivated to go and lift the trophy on Sunday in this stadium in front of the Ivorian people. We have revenge to take on Nigeria,” based on what Haller said to BeIn SPORTS.
The AFCON 2022 host country has become the two-time champions for the first time since Egypt in 2006, which is a remarkable turnaround for a team that was almost eliminated in the group stage.
