President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday he said his administration would harness digital technology to create Nigeria’s desired socio-economic progress that is necessary to transform society.
Receiving a delegation from Google (West Africa) led by its Director, Olumide Balogun, to the audience, the president noted that his administration is determined to use education and technology to improve the lives of its citizens, stating that education is critical to uplifting Nigerians.
“We are here to shape our tomorrow, today, and I am going to do it. Our young people represent more than 65 per cent of the age of eager development in Nigeria.
“We take education very seriously, and that is the main tool we have against poverty.
“The digital economy and telecommunications represent the future and we are determined to drive it forward.
“Their association with us to make it a serious development in our economic program is what is desirable. Our young people have the skills, they are bright and they are good people,” President Tinubu further stated.
He called on Google to partner with the government on the use of data in the public sector to improve service delivery.
“We have been evaluating different proposals on the development of databases, and you have critical information that can also help the poor to take advantage of the use of data.
“Authenticating the integrity of transactions across the country to serve more than 200 million people is no joke,” the president posited.
Towards making great progress in the industry, Chairman Tinubu stated that he is bringing more young people into management to further drive his transformational efforts and called on Google to “come on board” as a frontline partner in development.
The president stated that potential use cases emanating from the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Quantum Computing should be taken advantage of, even as he emphasized that development is achieved in stages.
“Let me have breakfast before dinner,” the president joked.

In his remarks, Mr. Balogun informed President Tinubu that the delegation traveled to Nigeria to reassure the government that the company is committed to supporting his laudable efforts through the deployment of modern digital technology.
The regional director of Google told the president that the implementation of data technology improves the efficiency and productivity of companies with the commitment that Google will give Nigeria a grant of N1.2 billion and train 20,000 women and children with the necessary skills to establish a new digital technology. job opportunities, which the economy urgently needs.
